Jane Evans has worked as a full-time painter since leaving art school (Ilam, Christchurch 1965; Waltham Forest School of Art, London 1966). She had exhibited widely both nationally and internationally (San Francisco; Memphis; The Bahamas, USA; London; Ulster, Northern Ireland, UK; Melbourne, Brisbane, Australia; Hong Kong).

Listed in Allgemeines Kunstlerlexikon (AKU) (International Dictionary of Artists), 1995, Jane was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to painting in 1997.

Visitors are welcome to view paintings in the studio but by appointment only please.

Johanna Ward
Inspired by New Zealand land and seascapes.  .  .

Johanna graduated from the Dunedin School of Fine Arts with honours in painting.  She has become well known and is represented by most of the major galleries in New Zealand.  She has exhibited widely and her paintings are in many private collections around the world.

Johanna describes herself as a colourist.  Using her intuitive skills, she is able to produce works which have a wonderful range of colours and textures that have a sense of humour and which are completely identifiable as her works with her own unique and quirky original style.

You are most welcome to visit Johanna’s studio in Nelson.  However, please telephone or email for an appointment first.

The Suter Te Aratoi o Whakatu

Throughout its 100-year history, Nelson has been central to the wider development of art in New Zealand and the Suter now has has the third largest collection in the South Island.

It comprises three exhibition galleries and a fourth exhibition space, a 159-seat cinema, the venue for an annual International Film Festival and summer film festival (from late December to February each year), art house screenings, theatrical and musical performances and a well stocked craft shop in the foyer.

The Gallery is open every day (except Christmas Day) 10.30am - 4.30pm
