Brian Flintoff: Tidal Access Gallery
The balance of spiritual and physical.  .  .
Brian Flintoff's Pelorus (Dolphin)
Brian Flintoff is a highly respected New Zealand carver, whose medium of choice is bone, which has the advantage of being a renewable and sustainable resource.

Interest in the art of the West Coast Canadian Indian people and support and guidance from the New Zealand Maori community has been the greatest influence on his carving, which includes the miniature carving tradition of Japanese Netsuke.

He has also gained recognition by being made an Artist member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.

Crisan Craftware
Crisan Craftware
Crisan Craftware is produced from the finest Takaka Marble, found in the hills to the West of Nelson.

The chessmakers first crush and grind the marble, then combine it with coupling agents before it is cast. The resulting pieces are individually and carefully hand finished to produce finely detailed chessmen, such as those you see here.

The chessboards have been similarly cast from hand carved wooden masters. The reproduction is so detailed, the grain can be seen reproduced in the plain squares. Sets are available in a range of styles, price and colour combinations.
